Default Stereo swap and keep dash controls

So what is the definative way of installing a new stereo but still keeping your dash conrols. I have read the links about the remote and about the various hardwire possibilities, but I'm still confused. Has anyone developed a true plug and play adaptor? I am leaning towards the Alpine's. If you use the remote LED transmitter option, do you have to leave the stereo door open?

Thanks for the help

I'm in the process of doing this electrically (w/o the optical interface). This is only possible on head units that use wired remotes (like Sony units that use joysticks). The factory controls use a matrix of resistors to place a resistance between the remote wire and ground; this happens to be the same way the Sony units work. As soon as I get the controls out, I'll be reworking the PCB to generate the Sony-compatible resistance values. VERY easy mod for someone with basic electronics experience that can solder.

marcucci,

I would be very interested in hearing from you when you finish this solution. It sounds like the best way to go!

PM or email me, I can keep you up to date. If you have a Sony with the joystick, it should be identical. For any other make, it would have to have a wired remote and even then, I'm not sure it would be doable.

My mod involves either changing the resistors currently on the stock control PC board or soldering additional resistors in parallel to drop the R values. Either way, with a little soldering experience, it's a fairly easy fix.
