Stereo volume
I need some help. After installing a subwoofer to my system the volume level has gone way down. I have to turn the volume up to 30 when it needed to be 23 before installing the sub. What is wrong with the system?
I have an Xtant 603x that has 2X75 and one channel for 150 watts at 4ohm. I have a component set for the 75w channels and the sub on the 150. I told the installer to wire the speaker for 2ohms in order to get 300w(this subwoofer is rated to handle 1000w continously). So after installing the sub I volume level has dropped way down and maybe the sound quality with it.
np. i'm just hoping i can be of help... this is an unusual one that might be difficult to diagnose remotely...
questions and thoughts:
when you say you've lost volume, are you referring to just in your highs? (i'm going to assume so since the sub is new, and you're comparing to what it sounded like previously.)
could the sub be SO loud that it produces the perception that your highs are at a lower volume?
did the installer adjust the gain settings? (i suspect he did. he may have set the high gains unusually low while working on the sub.) can you have the installer check these settings?
what clues you to thinking you've lost SQ (sound quality)?
check the phasing of the wiring... ie, make sure that positives go to positives and negative go to negatives for the amp and speakers. one way to check this is to reverse the positive and negative of 1 speaker and check again. if it doesn't fix the problem or if it makes things worse, put it back like it was originally. (assume it was wired correctly to begin with) i know of other ways to check phase, but those are for when you can visually see the speakers involved.
once i get a few more clues, we can go from there...
