stock deck is very "bright"
good point beer guy,
I noticed that on my burned CD's. Although, I don't necessarily adjust the bass/treble controls on my burnt CD's. Now that you mention it, I don't notice the brightness when I listen to the radio.

its a little too bright...in fact, so bright that it just sounds plain wrong. But when I listen to an original CD, or and "burned" copy of an original CD (not downloaded music), or even the radio, it sounds ok. Its all my downloaded stuff that is all wack. And they are all usually 128kbps quality downloads. For example, I'll download a bunch of music, from all different sources, I assume (using Kazaa), and burn them onto a disk. And some songs sound ok, some sound extremeely bright, while others have the volume way way down.
how do I adjust bass and treble controls when I burn a disc?

I've noticed that the stock deck provides a nice *scooped* EQ at +5 bass and +4 treble. But that is with regular CDs. The sound of my burned disks is rather crappy but I've always been disappointed with the inability of MP3s to accurately reproduce highs. But personally I wouldn't adjust EQ prior to burning. That would make discs so inconsistent that I know I'd be endlessly fiddling with the EQ controls for every disk. It's best to burn flat, imo, and find a middle ground EQ curve on the deck or upgrade components more in line with how you like to listen to your music. But, hey, after years of being in rock bands, I have no doubt my ability to hear highs is somewhat diminished so I may just not be hearing the strident highs you're referring to.
