So I am thinking about running a JL 12w3 in a toolwell with an alpine MRP-M350. I am also going to remove the two panels behind my driver and passenger seat and remove the covering for the area under the softop. My amps (Alpine T220 amp running to my components) will be mounted on opposite sides of the trunk beside the subwoofer.
I was just wondering if anyone had thought of using a somewhat thick, dense sheet of foam (which I will be dying black) under the spare tire and in the well location for an even visual look and possibly some sound deadening since that area is just bare metal. If so what were the results or what are you theories. I am probably going to do the installation within the next week or so, unless I decide to go with a different belated christmas present to myself.
Also what RCAs do you guys recommend and where can I find this premade tool well subwoofer box at.
check in the Gallery at the top of this forum. There are a lot of people with a "false floor" in the well area... Darkknight1999's sub box creates one and looks OEM.

I ended up with something similar to this after I had a roll bar installed in my car for track use. We ended up removing the OEM roll hoops and since the new bar provided far more stiffness that the OEM roll hoop cross bar frame, we removed it as well and mounted the seat belt retractors on the cross member of the new roll bar. This left the whole area between the trunk and the cockpit completely open and with one of the new roll bar legs welded directly frame where the spare tire used to be, the spare wasn't going back into that spot.
I used a couple of layers of sound deadeners in this whole area - Dynamat extreme followed by 3 coats of Quiet Car and then I added another layer of dynamt for good measure.
To cover all of this up, I had some leftover sound deadener from a previous car laying around called VBLOK 3. This is a 2 layer closed cell foam with a lead sheet in the middle. I cut that to shape and layed it out to cover the whole space. This shot makes it look somewhat gray because of the flash, but it is black in daylight.
The smooth surface you are looking at is the back of the passenger seat since I have no trim behind the seat area anymore. You can also see the passenger side rear roll bar brace on the righ hand side of the photo.
VBLOK 3 is kind of pricey ($179 for a 12 sq ft sheet), but works very well and is easily molded to the countours with the lead layer in the middle. The surface could be made to look nicer than what you see here, but I am using stuff that had previously been in another car first and wasn't smooth when I started.
I am using an 8" jl Audio sub in a wlaurent enclosure and get very usable bass up front. The sound deadening helps a lot.
I can take care of you with regards to the sub box. Just click the link in my sig. I can also get you sound deadening as well. If you have a brand you like just let me know and I'll get you a price for it.
