Default Sub port from trunk to cabin?

Hello! I've noticed that this question was asked a couple of other times in the forums, but none of the replies actually answered the question. Instead, replies mentioned like 10 other unrelated things, so I will ask it here again, directly and clearly:

First idea: Is it possible to install a sub port from the trunk into the cabin, coming out behind the seats? - Without losing the functionality of the top? How much cutting would be involved, if any? I have not looked into the specific placement of things on the inside of that region of the car yet.

Second idea: Is it possible to directly install subs behind the seats, into that wall? And, how many cubic feet would be behind the subs there, approximately? Can this be done without losing functionality of the top?

Thanks for help guys!

The question hasnt been answered because its just not a good Idea.

1)Ports.

A ported box is not necessary in an s2000. A good sealed box provides MUCH cleaner bass. You are asking for more work than necessary.

2)The metal behind the seats is part of the car's structure. To cut away that much of it (to fit a sub) is just a bad idea. You can significantly weaken the car, and unbalance the chassis with such a mod, and again, not necessary.

Hope that answers your questions. If not, please state specific reasons why you are looking to do this, so we can discuss this in further detail

Hi there NFRs2000NYC!
Thanks for the information about the car's structure. Good to know.

But I did not ask an opinion about sealed versus ported boxes, cleaner versus non cleaner basses. I think I will decide for myself which I prefer, thanks! - That is not what I asked for at all. FWIW, the units which I considered installing are not "car speakers" at all but rather specialized studio monitor units (low frequency 8") which do require porting and also specific cubic inches. (Forgiving the fact that they also prefer to be mounted in specific materials as well). To appreciate their detailed and accurate output, they need to be heard while not completely isolated off by a wall, from the listening area that you're in. The cabin in this case is where I intend to be most often, i don't plan on listening from inside the trunk all that often. The high frequency drivers should be rather easy to place in the cabin. The idea here is to be able to appreciate the studio monitor sound of these units while the car is stopped or rolling lazily (Driving fast we all know what happens with road noise anyway). The four driver units are powered by four custom matched amplifiers: Class A, tuned, fully discreet signal paths, and high-current. Looks like those particular units are just not gonna fit right, no matter what kind of wiggling/placement goes on, outside of structural cutting Might have to go with the usual "subwoofer" placed in the trunk notion

I didn't know that metal behind the seats was structural, good thing I asked!!! LOL That would be a major oops! As I said I haven't seen what exactly is back there, so thanks for the heads up!

I'm short and my passenger is short - thus we have a good bit of unused space behind the seats. Perhaps a rather flat box..3" or so, mounted behind the seats, bolted to that metal wall....will have to make some measurements... not sure how great that will look tho

as I mentioned in another thread, there are some vents between
the cabin and the trunk, though they aren't very large. If you
poke around, there have been a number of in-cabin subwoofer
installations detailed here, including
- passenger footwell (at least one person cut out some floor
metal to create greater box space without using up too much
foot space)
- small sub under driver side dashboard
- replacing the rear console with a custom sub enclosure
- removing the soft top and replacing it with sub enclosure
