Subwoofer solutions
couldnt you use the Richbass woofer from the rsx-s and stick it where the sparetire goes? its not as powerful as an aftermarket woofer but it does give a bit more decent bass than the speakers from the s2k...
I bought the RSX-S subwoofer box from someone who was throwing it away (in one of the RSX forums) and installed it in the spare tire. It's made by Bose. I threw away the built-in amp and am driving it with half of Soundstream A4 amp (25-50W). I had to do few things: I specifically asked to the seller for the long stem to hold it down. I had to cut about 1 inch at the bottom tip of the plastic enclosure to fit it in the spare. The cutting didn't open a hole to the enclosure. The spare tire and speaker enclosure fit under the plastic panel at the bottom of the folded top very tight. I scraped off the insulation above the tire, and opened up a hole (~4" diameter) in the panel just above. I tightened the stem from inside through the hole. And also I think this gives me a little more sound from the sub. I have a mat under the folding top, of course.
Now about the sound: this is not for a booming true sub sound. I can tell it is there and I think it's worth the money (I paid $35 total) and, best of all, I didn't have to sacrifice any space in trunk. I even kept the spare!
Additional info: I have JVC SH-99 MP3 HU with sub output. I also have 4" component rear (Infinity) with component front replacement (MB Quart). I drive the fronts with Sountsream Lil Wonder and the rear with the other 1/2 of SS A4. I have both amps on a panel that stands behind the gas tank in the trunk.
I think I can live with this for now. I may replace the subwoofer speaker with a better 6.5" someday.
