Sweet new Alpine XM head unit
yeah, my HU is 100% XM ready. i just want to make sure that if i continue to wait a bit, i won't have to get some hacked POS that i have to patch and mangle into my Alpine.
i can try my local dealer and see what they have in backstock as well..

I highly doubt that any product besides ones manufactured by Alpine would be able to utilize Ai-Net.....
I however, have no clue what this blitzsafe thing is.....but if its not made by alpine, I dont think it will work with Ainet. Not very good marketing strategy on Alpine's part if it does.

I'm curious about this XMDirect thing, but details are sketchy and difficult to find.
Here's the best info I could find:

Didn't see anything on Blitzsafe's website about it. Not sure if they make it or someone else.
Basically I'm confused. If Alpine is discontinuing their XM tuner, then why do they continue to make their units XM ready? What's the point?
Argh this is annoying. Ideally the CDA-9820XM would play MP3s, or they would release a new model with an integrated XM tuner that can play MP3s. That and an iPod hookup would rock.
Still, I do think that carrying CDs around is going to go away pretty quickly. We're going to start carrying all our music around in portable devices, and keeping our CDs safe at home as the original pristine master copy.
Personally I find CDs in general a pain in the ass, so maybe the CDA-9820XM not having MP3 playback doesn't really matter to me... not sure. If I do get an iPod, I don't think I would ever play an MP3 CD.

Yeah, I'll hardly ever use CDs after the iPod interface is in the car. All of my music is AAC format anyways.
It's sort of strange that they discontinue the XM stuff, then introduce an all-in-one receiver for XM. Perhaps a company like GM wants to license Alpine to make HUs for them, and this is their "test model"? That's purely a guess, and probably has no warrant.
I'm picking up a TUA for my HU that I haven't gotten yet. I doubt anything non-licensed by Alpine would use AI-Net, as Dave stated, it wouldn't be good business sense.
