Take Apart Dome Light Assembly?
Has anyone ever taken apart the dome light assembly? If so, what is the proper process?
I would like to install a permanent connection for my radar detector power cord.
Yes, I'll remember to turn the radar detector off when disembarking...
Thanks, and Kind Regards,
Chris

You will need to remove the entire overhead piece and driver's side A-pillar to run the power to the interior fuse box. There are some torx screws that hold the visors on that need to be removed. There are also two bolts inside the dome light assembly.
To remove the dome light clear plastic diffuser, you will need a small flathead screwdriver or paper clip. There are four thin openings between the clear plastic and the moulding piece. The holes are about an inch from each corner of the piece on the long side. Just stick the screwdriver in there and pry the clear part out. It shouldn't take much effort, so if you find yourself prying too hard, stop and try a different hole. Start from the backside of the piece in case you scratch something...
After the dome light diffuser is off, you should see the bolts underneath it. Notice that the one on the left side holds the ground in place. Remember to put it back that way when you're reassembling everything. Everything else is just clips. You will need to remove the top parts of both a-pillar mouldings, too, since the overhead piece sits behind them. The tops of the A-pillar pieces are held by just clips, too.

Thanks for the info.
BTW, that's a very neat install with the remote V1 display. I bought the remote display for my V1 too but I wasn't actually planning to use it in this car. I just want the main unit high on the windshield for maximum range, but without cords hanging all over. A short pigtail cord coming out of the dome light assembly is perfect.
If the plastic trim cooperates I'll run the wire all the way around to the fuse box.
Thanks Again, and Kind Regards, Chris
