Great write up! Just what I was searching for! AP2 instructions are much harder to find...
Thanks a million!

Yup. Totally worth it though IMO. My iPod happily lives in the secret compartment. No wires dangling around or anything...

Thanks for the FAQ, one question though. Is it really necessary to remove the center console to install a new HU? Or can I just skip to the step where you grab the door on each side and wiggle it toward you?

Third post of this thread, Dava-ROR said "you can crack/break stuff if you attempt that on an AP2"

Oh, I thought the crack/break referred to "prying" from the top. There's a step that says open the door, grab on both sides and wiggle it loose. I was wondering if I could just do that because there is enough clearence between the bottom of the door and the center console.

It's pretty clear if you read the post in context. He states:
That's for an AP1, you can crack/break stuff if you attempt that on an AP2 as you are missing one important step.
The very next sentence begins to detail the "one important step" that is missing from the OP (text bolded by me for emphasis):
You need to remove the center console piece that holds the roof, hazard and (depending on year) defog switches, cupholder thing, etc.

The issue isn't the clearance of the bottom of the door. When you pull on the door, you're removing the door and the entire trim assembly around the door. if you look, it's clear that you can't remove all of that with the center console cover in place.

It's not a big deal to remove the center console cover. Just follow the instructions that have already been posted.

Agreed. I just did this yesterday. The between-seats console cover pops off pretty easily.

Sweet, thanks for clearing things up. I was just worried a bit because I don't want to crack any of those clips holding the center console down.
