most 12 will do fine in a .8 cuft. but I'd go with 10" and vent the rear deck.

Sure, if you're looking at running less than 300W to the 12. Believe me, I spent months looking (and then another 4 months waiting for it to come to market) for 12" subs that could handle 500W in 1 cu ft or less.

There are a handful of subs that can meet those requirements.

The space inside the enclosure acts as a spring on the rear of the woofer cone. When too much power is applied, it can be like a rock and a hard place - the cone is trying to push back against the air, but the air inside the enclosure cannot compress any more than it has already. And vice versa, the subwoofer when attempting to reach 1000W worth of it's excursion is pulling against a vacuum.

Either way, the subwoofer looses part of it's power handling capabilities to keep it from tearing itself apart.

Additionally, the size of the enclosure affects how well the subwoofer performs on an acoustic level. A properly sized enclosure will sound much better than one that is too small (small enclosure = boomy).

Look around these forums (and the main site as well):

There is a TON of excellent info on subs and enclosures.

From Crutchfield's website:

power handling: 200-500 watts RMS (250 watts per coil)

You're going to slaughter that sub with your 1000W of power... Although, I guess if you wire the voice coils in series (4ohm load), you'll be putting down 500W into a 500W "capable" sub...

Fine print will pwn any but the savviest of car audio shoppers.

I'd send the enclosure and sub back. Pick up a Stereo Integrity Mag 12" for $250 shipped and a WLAURENT Darkside Subs tool well enclosure. That Mag is rated 500W-1000W capable in a 1cu ft enclosure. You won't have to worry about overpowering it, and the sound quality is incredible.

so... 1000w for the type r sub is no good? i was told to get the 1000w instead of the 500w to actually get the sound performance from the type r sub. whats the link to darkside's enclosures?
