Tool Space Sub Enclosures?
With your sub, that 1000W amp will run only 500W. So I'd say keep the amp. Just something to keep in mind for future purchases. 
Devil: You're somewhat right. I don't care about SPL. Sound quality requires power too. And there are very few high SQ subwoofers that will fit in a 1cu ft enclosure. Your IDMax requires what, 1.25 or 1.3 (off the top of my head). And if your enclosure is not the right size, you're affecting the tonality of the sub as well as it's power handling capabilities.

Not so much as it affects how long the speaker will last.
It really doesn't take much time to break a speaker in, and it really doesn't require more than starting with the amplifier gain turned down a bit, and then after a few hours of play time turning the gain to where you want it.
