Has anyone retro-fitted tweeters. I think the concept is good but don't know where to start; will I need a cross-over network, can the stock 02 speakers be used? Can the head unit and existing system drive two more speakers?
i've started the project, i had a silverstone with black interior, but i wanted red seats and inserts, while maintaining the black carpet, anyhow, while upgrading the door panels, i also added the '02 tweeters, you can buy the '02 tweeter frames without the door panels, but you would have to drill them into the door to make them fit, and the hole pattern and placement might be a little difficult, instead i bought another set of '02 doors with the holes already drilled, besides these pieces, i believe that you also need to buy the stock tweeters, i didn't since i was going to buy a set mb q's, don't know why you would go with stock if you have to buy a new set, however attached to the stock tweeters is a metal frame that holds the tweeter frames to the doors, which you need, since the passenger side frame does not hold flush to the door, anyhow, here's a pic.
other pics can be found on my forum about the retrofits i did at
also, if you need a set of door panels to experiment with for the drilling, i have a new set of panels leftover from the project above on ebay, these retail for about $800.00.
I am working on a tweeter retro-kit for the 00 and 01 MY.
It will consist of OEM tweeter pods (modified with aftermarket tweeters that are surface mounted into the pods), templates for proper placement, mounting hardware, and instructions. It may be coupled with a component system.
I am looking at making the kit available with a couple of different manufacturer tweeters.
My best guess is that I will have some pics available in a couple of weeks (I will need to find a donor car for the first fitting as my car is a 2002) - and a kit available shortly there after.
