Are two component sets too much?
Where are you going to put them all? The 2000-2001 models only have spots for a woofer, so a regular component set already requires some creativity just to fit the tweeter. So far the best S2000 installs I've seen done were with 3-way component sets, but that involves getting into either the dash or the kick panels for fitment of the midrange.
As a certifiable basshead I consider a subwoofer a necessity. In my experience one good 2-way component set - properly set up in the front - with a good, well-powered subwoofer (or 2) out back does the job quite nicely. Many people have touted the virtues of rear speakers and while I think in the S2000 it's a pile of poo-poo, it may be a route you end up being really happy with.
Reading through the electronics forum will reveal many different setups different people have done and their opinions on them. There's no such thing as having too many speakers - however many it takes for the stereo to sound right to you is the right amount for your car.
This probably doesn't help much but at least I tried
Good luck!

You could put the component set in the doors - tweeter in the MY02 location. Then the sub in the trunk with midrange rears.
whatever you do, do it in steps so you can appreciate each improvement.

Thats the set up im using now and am happy with it. I have eclipse 5 1/4 in the door with eclipse tweets in the a-pillars. I put 5 1/4 in the rear with tweets next to them and it sounds great. I originally had the front set up and only tweets in the rear and was ok with it till I used a nibbler on the cross brace to get the mids to fit
I am just waiting for a check from the dealer for stolen amps while the dealer had my old prelude to get the sub in the trunk.
