Good info as I was thinkng of purchasing a nav without cutting the dash. Thanks!

Looking at your pics, one could get creative with the mounting location.

Suction cup doesn't work on the dash, so there's a "dash disk" with adhesive.
It's interesting that Garmin would think of this for Californians. I didn't like the idea of putting that suction cup on the windshield, either. Since the dash is too porous to hold a vacuum under a suction cup, I was going to make myself some sort of disc out of a thicker piece of 3M film and put the suction cup on it.
One GPS store here sells most of their Nav units with a "bean bag" mount. This is a weighted "star" of bean bags where the mount is attached to the center of the cluster and the underside is a kind of rubbery, sticky surface (like a rubber thumb you use to count paper money). You just place it anywhere on the dash. I hate those 'cause they're just plain ugly.

Hrmmm, that placement gave me an idea.

If the screen were a little bit smaller, and you didn't use your A/C much, and if you were good at fabrication....

One might be able to fit a small nav, like the garmin, into the A/C vent.

I know, it probably won't work, but I think it would be very cool. Very convinient placement and somewhat stealthy.

Not to mention, I like things to blend in or look as stock as possible when it comes to these things. But on the other hand you also would lose the portable-ness of the device, eh just a thought.

I don't think it would fit in the AC vent. This unit is so thin that you could mount it on the stereo cover tho. It would be harder to see there. Same reason I didn't go for the cupholder installation that I saw on this forum. I do prefer permanent installs because it just feels like there's less chance of theft, tho I'm not sure it's true. It looks very tempting to see a unit like this sitting on top of the dash. Lets face it, Honda should have a double DIN in the center of the dash like every other car. But they don't so we're dealing with a less-than-ideal situation.

It's battery seems to have a very long life. Ultimately I'll get the power cord installed but I'm in no hurry. Looks like I could just plug it into the lighter once a week to keep it going. I'm waiting for the stereo adapter so I can plug either an Ipod vs this unit into the head unit for mp3 playback.

It would be really great if the Nuvi played back video (instead of just pics). I could load movies or TV shows on to an SD card and watch them on an airplane.
