Yeah, I am also kind of confused. So when I order the DCI I should also order the wiring harness to go along with it, correct? I got a wiring harness from Best Buy, but from what I've read I'm under the impression that the Best Buy harness is lacking a couple necessary wires.

Is this correct?

Thanks,
Dave

So just to confirm, the the Alpine 9856 HU does not have the Modfry DCI direct wire link. I was under the impression that most of the newer HU have the connecter available for direct connection with the DCI. The 9856 HU must use the IR DCI connector, yes?

I am about to run out the door and get this HU. I love the features; and, with a 4G Ipod Nano, I will have no need for a Mp3 CD changer. Two questions though,

What speakers should I use to replace the stock ones?

and

Should I get an external Amp, IOW is the HU enough to power the recommended speakers?

Thanks

Mike, the connection is as fast as the IPOD itself.

I never experienced the 420i, does it make that big of a deal that it is worth upgrading? Did you consider the 9857 or is that still MIA?

It makes a world of difference from the 420i. If you have a lot of songs on your IPOD, the 420i is impossible to work with while driving....simply waaay too slow. I didnt need the 57, I dont care for the fancy display. The 56 was more than enough for me. In fact, I recommend all people who have the 420i to upgrade to this.
