Default USB thumbdrive FM modulator

I currently dont want to spend $300 for a head unit (blaupunkt st louis mp65) but I do want the capability to listen to MP3'S without constantly burning cd's. I saw a USB thumbdrive fm modulator the other day and I wanted to know what you guys think. Its basically a unit that plugs into a power outlet in your car and can play music off of a usb thumb-drive; and it sends the audio to your head unit off a specific fm station. The only con is that the play/pause previous/next buttons must be used on the unit itself as opposed to the head unit. Its only $40 and wanted to know if either one of you have a similar unit and how good fm modulators are in general in your opinions. thanks.

I got an fm modulator for my mp3 player liked for a day then hated it. If you by chance have an Ipod or mp3 player look around at just connecting one of those to your factory radio. It will only cost a little more.

I have neither. Were you reffering to getting a cable directly from an Iopd to the oem head unit?

Trivium, like the others, I don't have any experience with what you're specifically asking about but I did try something like it with XM. Using a MiFi, I used the FM transmitter which works ok but you do get static. I put up with it for about a month and then got sick of having to control the unit from an external source and the poor sound quality. I'm afraid this is what you'll find, it will work ok for awhile, but you'll realize there are better ways to accomplish what you're looking for and now you're out 40 bucks.

I tried one, it was a cheap one... plugged into the cig lighter, had a usb port and like 4 buttons to control the tracks it played... it sucked.

Do you have a link to the unit you're talking about? It may be higher quality...

I think they are all made by the same people.

And if there is going to to be static I think I will wait a few months and save for real head unit.

thanks for the opinions guys.
