Okay,

I'm a resident of Southern California and I just purchased a Valentine 1 radar detector and placed it right undernieth my rear view mirror. In the past 3 days alone, I've: been passed by (Mission PD, Fullerton PD, IPD), been followed by (CHP, IPD), have followed (Mission PD, Laguna Niguel PD), and drove along side (laguna niguel PD) at least 9 PD cars... and the radar did not detect any of them

Sure, passing 1 or 2 in a day and not haveing the radar go off may be common, but now I'm having doubts. Do So Cal PD not have their radars on that offten anymore? - Would it be better to get a deflector instead (x-tra $$)?

Probably just that they arent running radar. I know here only officers in the motor vehicle inforcement unit run radar. The cars you saw were probably just on routine patrol.

 

Rumor has it that those guns causes cancer of some sort over time, so maybe they turn them off while driving in their patrol car.

What do you mean by deflector? There's no legal way to block radar signals.
