I'm going to replace my deck so that's a non-issue...anyhow, what are the best speakers out there that won't require adding an amp?

I recommend checking Crutchfield's magazine and website. You should look for the best sensitivity ratings (in dB I think...also I think the higher the number the better). The better the sensitivity, the more responsive they are.

Also, a rating to keep an eye on is the range (ex: 20 - 22,000 kHz). Although the human ear has a narrower range than some speakers can output, it still makes a difference (in my opinion).

I was/am very happy with the numbers for the Polk EX3's.

try to pick your head unit first, then you'll know how many watts RMS you'll have to play with...

I really haven't seen too many with RMS above 23 watts...27's been the best so far

Are there any real efficient component speakers? Or overly powerful CD decks?

Okay, so I think now that I'm stuck getting an amp...how basic can I go without compromising quality?
