I have the tools and ability to make MDF spacers for speakers deeper than 2". How deep can the speaker be and still fit behind the door panel of an AP2 (2005)?

I am looking for good quality speakers below $400 that will fit. I would prefer better quality than the DB6501 or similar. Any suggestions?
