what would you do?
I have 2001 s2k.
it comes with shitty speakers and no tweeters as you already know.
would you replace the existing speakers?
or add nice tweeters?
I have decent pioneer headunit already.
let me know what you guys think.
thanks.

Is doing both an option? You could buy a nice component set and mount the tweeters higher up on the door. If you don't feel like doing that, just buy new speakers to fit in the existing location. No sense adding a nice tweeter to a crappy woofer.
the '01 speakers are crappy. you'll get a meaningful improvement with
the easy & comparatively cheap solution of replacing the door speakers
with decent coaxials - make sure they're reasonably efficient if you're
going to run off headunit power. Component speakers (i.e. with a separate
tweeter) are a step up, especially as the highs are no longer blocked by
your knee, but in addition to the difficulty of retrofitting them to your '01,
most of them are less efficient and thus intended to be driven by an
external amp.
FWIW, I started w/ coaxs, but eventually went to amplified components.
I found that each improvement only whetted my appetite for more...

will keep that in mind...
