Wierd Question/Idea (Polk MM6501UM Fitment)
Hey all,
I am researching replacement component speaker sets for my S now that I have a new head unit. I am starting to settle on the Polk Audio MM series. I like what I see and read about the MM6501 sets and was thinking I might have some luck since they are discontinued in finding them cheaper. Searching around I am not having luck finding the MM6501 but I did find the MM6501UM (https://www.sonicelectronix.com/item...-MM6501UM.html) on Amazon for $149. These speakers are meant for marine application but I think they would work awesome in the S2000 with a Modifry adapter. The midbass has the crossover built into it I wouldn't need to find a place to locate it in the nor string wires all over the place.
The one concern I have is with the grille on the speaker. I cannot find any images that show the speaker without the grille which makes me nervous that it is permanently attached to the speaker. The Q&A in the link I gave above says that they can though so I am going to go ahead and grab them.

Well, never mind. After more research I saw on Crutchfield in the Q&A they said that the grille's are NOT removable. I am pretty sure the speakers would not fit behind the door panel with the grille in places (specs say it is 7/8" tall). That being the case I canceled the order from Amazon and am continuing my search. I found an open box buy for a set of MM6501's on eBay for $179 but I am thinking that I may as well go for the MM6502's for $199 instead to get the newest tech.
I am bummed the MM6501UM's didn't work out. I really liked the idea of the crossover's being attached to the back of the speaker. It would really simplify the wiring in the door.
