Would S-Pods compliment my system?

I would make sure that however you setup your aftermarket system you have full fader control when you are done. You're not going to want to the S-Pods at 100% (or 50% depending how you look at it)

Being that they're kind of just "filler" and most of your soundstage should be up front, I think they'd be sufficient running mid-quality speakers off the head unit.

Definitely a good option. I had relocated my stock speakers behind the seats like that, and purchased everything I needed from Lucid to do it.
In my '04 I'm still undecided which route I'll take.

I have to admit the S-pods are very, very nice.

I've pondered both alternatives myself, and I decided to go with the S-Pods on my MY04.
My reasoning? I don't know if there's any actual evidence to back up my thinking, but a speaker designed for rear sound (both bass, mids, and highs) would be muffled if the speaker fired directly into the seat. I could see this being a possibility especially if listening to talk rado or something like that while doing 70 down the highway.
I do a lot of driving, and I'm figuring that a lot of it that I will do in the S2000 will be top down. Having these right behind my head will allow for me to hear the radio well without necessarily having to increase power to the fronts to make it happen.
In my case, I don't image power would be an issue, considering I'm putting Focal Utopias in the doors and the S-Pods, but if anything else the S-Pods are a "neat" mod that allows for full seat movement (I'm tall), wind buffeting, and better ability to hear the radio while driving.
And, when I need to, I'll just fade them off. :-)
The only "downside" is you have to run the speakers in mono instead of stereo, because you don't have two speakers for each the driver and passenger like the OEM headrest speakers do. However, as close as the OEM speakers are together, you probably wouldn't notice the difference. And again, they're just fillers, so there's no need to be super picky about them.
My two cents.
