Default XM Direct Failure, Need Help

Hello,

I've had the XM Direct and adapter for my Alpine headunit sitting in my basement for a few months now because the car was in storage for the winter, but today I tackled the process of installing it between classes this afternoon.

I've come across a problem. I'm only "temporarily" mounting it because I plan on doing a more permanent install later in the season along with a stereo, but I ran the antenna into the trunk (seems to work on underside of trunklid).

Anyway, I subscribed to the service (Family Plan) and kept checking the connection through each step of the process to make sure everything was still okay. Got most of the car put back together and put the radio door back on, suddenly, it just stops working. I'm not getting any "Error" or anything on the headunit, which makes me think that something happened to the controller box. I stuffed the headunit back in but it worked after I put it in so I doubt the Ai-Net connector has come unplugged. I've tried resetting the headunit several times, and it no longer even shows XM as an option.

Anything I can try (aside from ripping it all apart again, which I have no desire to do unless absolutely necessary)?

Thanks

i don't know much about the XM Direct and adapter setup, but are they powered or grounded separately? or are they powered via the HU?

when i get home, i'll have to do some reading up via their manuals. sounds like something was disconnected somehow though... i know you made all efforts to prevent that, but.... that's just my initial gut feeling.

rip it apart. you save more time troubleshooting it correctly then if you take short cuts. more than likely you'll need to rip it out anyway.

Did you try hitting the master reset on the headunit when everything was up and running?

Which Alpine HU are you using?

Hey,

I was using the 9835 (which is now causing different problems), but I ended up ripping everything apart. All the connections seemed secure, but I just unplugged everything and plugged it back in, and viola, it worked. It also "forgot" the activation once.

Now if I can figure out why my Alpine keeps turning off and back on everytime I press a button on the face, I'll be golden.

well, glad to hear that it's working...

off and back on w/ every button press though?

did you buy this via a local dealer? i'd be thinking about taking it back or in for some troubleshooting.
