Surely you guys are not complaining about the $10/month fee being most of you here drive a 30k car.

Cut back 2 big mac value meals a month, and you would not have to worry about satellite programming.

Really, your mind will change when you listen to XM. I've got hundreds of CDs in my car, but I have pretty much grown tired of them, the same with the redneck radio stations down here.

XM radio will do quite the trick for me. I'm just waiting for equipment to go down in price and/or to improve.

I'll try to simplify:

1. There are certain cable channels I can't get from broadcast television in LA, so I pay for them. (Speedvision, ESPN, AMC, Sci Fi, etc.)

2. I'm already getting what I want in radio here in Los Angeles, so I'm not interested in paying XM for something else. I could be wrong, but I don't think XM is offering programming that's better than the free programming in LA.

I guess I don't have the same concerns as many here because I live in Los Angeles, and I don't have to deal with "red neck radio." We have tons of radio broadcasting in LA, and some of it's REALLY good. I have to wonder who's doing the programming on XM. I can't imagine that it's better than the music programming on KPFK or KCRW here in LA.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I have this image that XM would be like the digital radio broadcasting carried on my father's cable television service in Phoenix, AZ. It has many many channels with almost any music genre you can imagine, but the selection within those genres is awful. If you like a particular type of music enough to choose a special channel with only that type, then you won't be satisfied with some computer-shuffled playlist of the biggest selling songs of that type. Maybe XM is better than that, I have no idea. A good human DJ is very important.

In any event, I already have good programming for free in LA, so XM is not filling a niche for me. I'm only talking about ME here.

OK just my opinion and it's been said before but why pay $10 per month for XM (and hope there are some songs playing that you like) when you can download MP3's or buy cd's and listen to the songs you want to? Like I said just my opinion.

Several reasons. a) Signing up for XM is easier than downloading songs and burning them b) I don't have time to download songs c) I want to hear new songs I don't know about d) XM has things other than music (news, weather, comedy) that you can't get on MP3 e) Sometimes I want to hear genres that I don't usually listen to (classical, blues, country) but I don't necessarily want to have an MP3 collection of them... Should I go on?

well actually sirius sat radio and xm are pretty much the same thing. i had sirius for three years b4 my S and they're great. it all depends on the type of music u listen to and also if you like listening to sports.

secondly a sat box/ receiver is by far the easiest thing to install in any car. its a simple plug and play and then route the antenna to the outside of your car.

if anyone needs instructions or direction on installing anything having to do with sat radio go here

http://www.sirius.com/vehicleinstallation

Tells you everything from installing power, installation of antenna and even how to activate your system

hope i helped anyone who needed it

I was 20 years old when this thread was made. XM and Sirius is not the same. Even though they merged, XM still has more terrestrial antennas allowing them to receive signals on land even if the antennas blocked. Unlike Sirius where you have to have direct line of site still. Advantage is Sirius can be used on the open oceans.
