Yellow jacket
man, you guys are so sensitive. I was just trying to get the right answers. I guess I wasn't clear enough on my question. I was trying to get an answer that didn't involve... could be a bad ground, do you realize what that sounds like? Please, do not be offended, just know that I'm very frustrated after researching and troubleshooting for a long time. I try not to post until I've exhausted all my means, you know. And as for daktruckie99, all you did was try to correct me on the fact that my calculations for 6th gear 4000 rpm was wrong. I don't care what my speed is and I was being very vague. I was worried about the zero being displayed.
If I offended anyone, I apologize.
But please try to see it from my point of view. I've already acomplished the obvious. Unlike others, I try it myself before I ask for help. Thanks and please let me know if anyone else runs or has run into this problem.

Actually, NO I'm not that sensative. But rude is rude.
You said "Unlike others, I try it myself before I ask for help." How is it that we are supposed to know that? As you correctly pointed out, most people DON'T know where to start. Hence the basic answers FIRST.
I didn't mean to suggest you connected a 12v source to the 5v input, mearly that the 14v to 12v drop is normal at WOT, and there should still be plenty of juice to suppy the 5v source.
Also, you did suggest the even when it's not displaying 0 it's displaying low. By reporting on the gear ratios, we were trying to show that it in fact is not displaying low, but working properly. That reduces the number of problems you are reporting from 2 to 1. We DID solve 1/2 your problem.
Please try to see it from our point of view.
Now then... You said you wanted to test the voltage from the 5v signal while driving. Do you have a voltmeter? Did you test that? What were the results?
The YJ is supplied with Vampire taps for the connections. Did you use them, or some other means to splice the wiring? I have personally had some bad luck with the vampire taps, the connections looked solid, but weren't. I know we are going back to the basics here, but a LOT of people thing "I squeezed it TIGHT it MUST be good."

Yeah, I wasn't really talking so much about you, because you gave a valiant effort and I'm sure I would have said the same thing, but mainly daktrucki99 comment kinda pissed me off. He didn't even answer the question and he got all butt hurt because I blew his stupid attempt at an answer away. Anyways,....
I haven't had a chance to test the voltage from the 5V signal while driving. Will do when I get a chance.
I did not use the vampire taps. I just spliced it in from wire to wire.
About the 5V... see my point was, I'm not sure that if the batt is reading 12V, it neccessarily means the wire I'm tapping off is reading 5v. I'm sure it has to go through some sort of simple transformer to convert the original 12V to 5v. maybe that "device" is acting up, you know? I haven't gone too detail into the schematics yet and that's why I was asking for some suggestions. Bob from Modifry tells me this is an unusual problem but is in fact a problem. about 3 of every 100 s2ks are affected.
