Wow that is pretty low. I have to put mine to 10000 us for my car to start. At 10000 us my injectors are open 13ms t cold start(70f coolant)

I'm prett much stock except for test pipe/exhaust.

Yup. When you replace injectors with an AEM, you have to manually rescale the Crank Injector Time for the new injectors. Most people miss this. If you don't, you wind up over fueling your start compared with your previous (hopefully functional) map. I haven't messed with AEM Tuner a ton, so it's possible it does it automatically, but AEM Pro did not.

My injectors are roughly 2-3x yours, so my Crank Injector Time is roughly 1/2 to 1/3 as long. (each of you)

Ah it makes sense now. So out of curiosity what is your injector pulse on idle once warmed up?

Also just want to verify that crank injector time is only active during cranking/starting. Even though my crank inj all is ON.

Update to the thread:

I have overanalyzed things in the past. I learned the answer is MUCH simpler. I'm not even worried about start up anymore.

the first step is to fix a bug in aemtuner by disabling 'crank inject all'

The second step is to increase crank injector to 10,000uS assuming stock fuel system

If you stopped right here, you will have probably have brought the startup to an acceptable level.

Further optimization:
Between 1 to 5 deg crank timing advance
Crank max rpm = 300rpm per my reading of tuning megasquirts
Crank min rpm between 35 and 40rpm (very sensitive)

Bump. I know this is an old thread but need to give thanks. So many times searching and people never post there conclusions, only post there problems. We used these settings on my aem and start up is real solid. Stock starts a tad bid faster. But these settings are like OP said . About 95% close

I looked at my tune, and it has "crank inject all" set to ON. However, I have the 02v02 firmware, which supposedly fixed the bug where no initial crank pulse would be delivered at all when "crank inject all" was set to ON. I tried a couple of starts with "crank inject all" set to ON/OFF, and honestly, I don't see a huge difference in start time. For me, it takes ~0.5s from hitting the start button to reach min crank speed, and another ~0.7s to reach max crank speed. I think this may be slightly slower than stock, but it's been very reliable for me through all seasons, including Ohio winters.

If possible, could other AEM users with the 02v02 firmware comment on whether the "Crank inject all" option makes much of a difference? The bug may only affect the earlier firmware. Thanks!

Not exactly what you asked, but my Evans eTune had Crank Inject All = ON. This was on 1v24 firmware. So it may have been fixed even earlier than 2v02. I haven't looked at the time on the logs, but it's usually about 2 seconds for my engine to catch, or just a bit longer than it was stock.

Thanks for the write up you helped me get my start up sorted out. I have just started tuning my S2000 engine and really enjoying it. Increasing my crank injector to 70,000uS seemed to do the trick. I may raise it a touch further and test but it seems to start well now. Previously it was a little hesitant and almost stuttered after a couple of seconds then fired.

I know this is Tony old thread but I'm.new to e85. I have initial crank timing set at 6000 it gets cold here where I'm at high 20s. How cold does it get at ur place to get it up to 70000?

Wow I'mma have to try this. Turn crank injet all off and set crank injector time to 10000? I'll give that a shot
