Apexi VAFC and Rev limiter
Hi guys quick question. Figured I'd post this since it's about the apexi VAFC which is so old data is hard to find. So I'm hoping someone with experience can chime in.
I have an ap2 motor in my ap1 with an ap1 ecu and I installed the VAFC just so I can set the Rev limiter lower but now I'm not even sure if this thing can do it. Anyone know if it can or am I stuck having to find a VAFC2 or Neo?
Thanks

None of the vafc or neo units can adjust rev limit. The neo is by far better then the previous 2 though because you can set vtec engagement to come on not just by rpm but throttle %, so you can set vtec low/3500-3700 rpm where the f22 responds well. You will be cruising in vtec at that rpm with the other units which sucks. But back to rev limit, best you can do is get a shift beeper and let the ap1 ecu run rich after 8500rpm, so no fuel cutting after this say 13afr at 8500rpm and then 8600rpm + it drops to 11.x, and you will feel the power drop off pretty abruptly (which the f22 does anyway) but this is also safer high rpm tune anyway and combined with motor out of breath and running rich combined, you will best be able to feel when to shift. I run an f22 with an ap1 ecu and this is how I set mine up. I had a beeper but disconnected it because it was loud and felt I didn't need it after tuning. I never hit the rev limiter with this motor, but it will take it if you do, just wouldn't amke a habit out of it, because it will shorten the overall life. 8500-8600rpm is a good limit.
If I purchase a Neo for MY02, is this something the ley person can figure out? Does the Neo give you the needed data or will I need a program for my laptop i.e. Datamaster, etc.? Just wanting to lower the Vtec some but worried about screwing up the AFR settings. I have a TP and doing the UK mod, and K&N CAI.
Would this require a wideband O2 ? The testpipe was on when I purchased it and there are no cells so I am unsure how it was configured for this mod.

You don't, but it does make the install easier and easier to change back to stock. the wires on both the ECU and NEO/VAFC are small and difficult to work with.
FWIW, I hard wired mine but I have no intent to modify the car to the point that I need a standalone ECU.

pnp is also a no brainer for troubleshooting issues in the future, and certainly if you end up messing up the install/hack job initially. Will save you a lot of time and frustration. I would never recommend spicing in with the amount of wires involved just to save $150.
