just pull it straight out and if that doesn't work wiggle it a bit but make sure you pull on the connector and not just the cable.

i find if you pull the wider part of the plug it seems to work better. also, i usually get out of the car and pull (with the door open) since i can get a better angle and am not pulling using my wrist.

Hmmm ... I haven't had any problems getting it off, but I think I did break my OBDII port connector while trying to plug it in once. Now I have to be very careful with it so that I don't break it the rest of the way.
Have you tried using a tiny screw driver to separate them?
