Default lower vtec engage?

outside of early engagement, is there really any power\hp increase? i'm still researching options as far as tuning goes and i think since i only have basic bolt ons, i may just end up lower vtec engage instead of dumping $500+ on a very mild tune. any one want to chime in?

I'm almost done with Havana Joe's tune and i've set his preliminary vtec lower then 4k rpms. We've gained great mid-range so far with proper af and ignition timing. Flashpro has many advantages you can use for the s2000

Where are you getting the $500+ for a mild tune estimate? You can do pretty well yourself just by reading all of Hondata's help files. I just loaded the tune that Hondata did for a stock S2000, then adjusted the fuel trims for high and low cams. It was pretty easy to find the right VTEC engagement point just by driving it. Start at 6K RPMs, drive it, lower it 100 RPMs, drive it again, etc. until you find the transition point that is as smooth as possible. For my nearly stock S2000, that point was 5500 RPMs.

With basic bolt-ons (I/H/E) and lowering vtec you will see decent mid range gains and a small peak horsepower gain.

Find a tuning solution that will allow you to lower vtec and add a little fuel to compensate for a better breathing engine.

A $500 tune is quite expensive. Tuning a car with basic bolt-ons should take no longer than an hour with an experienced tuner. There really isn't much to do other than finding the ideal vtec engagement point and checking that the A/F ratio is safe.
