Default psi by speed or gear?

My current setup had a speed dependent boost tune. it worked ok for traction if starting from a stop. But didn't work well for highway rolls because I was not in full boost until after 60mph (end of 2nd gear speed)

I assume that having psi based on a specific gear would better suit me. Is this possible?

I have the AEM 1052U EMS.

thanks in advance for any info

boost by speed is pretty much for racing.

unfortunately the aem ems can not do boost by gear.

Boost by speed sounds like it would only be valuable for drag racing only. I wouldn't expect it to work well on a road course.

BTW, I would be surprised if the '02 tranny has a gear selection sensor.

Thanks for the quick reply! I see, I guess I can always wire a switch between the 2 tunes. More specifically with and without the speed based

thats pretty much how i usually set it up.

first we use a wg spring thats good for daily driving.

then we use 2 switches. one turns the boost control soleniod on and off. Turn it off, you have wg pressure. turn it on and the ems can control the boost.

the 2nd switch selects either boost by speed or a higher set boost level.

example, switch one off, is 10psi on the wg spring, switch 1 on with switch 2 off is 15psi, turn switch 2 on and you have boost by speed.

that's a great and simple idea! same thing I was thinking and just add another switch to the solenoid, kinda like a master switch.

I have to change my wastegate spring. even at 10lbs (creeps to 12lbs) it still spins a little at the top of the tq curve in 1st and 2nd, maybe some R compounds first . Thanks again for your suggestion!

since on the subject, is it true that you don't want to go higher psi than double the WG spring rate? if yes, why not?

I'm thinking of possibly running an 8lb WG (for better traction) with the 2 switches but run up to ~20lbs max. Is this unwise?

as far as the max boost on the wg spring, there is no telling.. some setups work good and some dont, you just have to see.

I dont see a problem running 20psi on an 8psi spring.
