Default ?'s about 2005 ecu

I'm looking to boost my car here soon...buying each part separate, creating my own kit really...but the only part im kind of questioning and not so sure about is how I'm going to tune it...

I have a 2005 so i know theres something weird with that year model ecu...I know absolutely nothing about ECU's...and have never messed with one- or even tuned any car at that...

What engine management system would be required for the 05?

*if you're getting on here to bash me for not knowing anything about ECU's please send me a message and do it, dont do it on the thread. I'm learning...and this is why forums are here to help.

Thanks guys
-Mike

if you're going standalone, you're choices are kpro or AEM

kpro allows you to not have to change anything out when it comes time to do emissions, but costs a little more upfront

you will not be able to pass emissions legally with AEM

also, now that the aem ems v2 is out, you can probably get an aem ems v1 for really cheap, probably $600-700 used

greddy e-manage ultimate would be an alternative but dont compare it to stand alone systems like the AEM EMS and Kpro.

Mike, you would probably get more helpfull answers about this topic in the North Texas forum, since the most important thing is finding a good tuner, then asking him which platform he prefers. If you are going to bust out the big bucks, and build a reliable trrbo setup, then you'll need a standalone, but if you are going for a basic centrifugal SC, then you can get away with a piggy back.

The only thing that I can think of that will be challenging about your ECU is that it has the most agressive factory tune for a non-DBW (Flashable) ECU, so having the ability to retard timing is going to be critical. The older ECU's were more conservative, so their timing maps were already somewhat retarded.
