I don't mean to hijack the thread, but I ask becuase I'm pushing 100K on my ap2 and the clutch is starting to slip. I've got a blower in my future but I'm probably about a year or so out. I didn't want to have to upgrade twice. I was planning on going w/ the ACT PP and AP1 flywheel but wasn't sure the daily driver status.
There isnt any reason why you couldn’t run on your upgraded clutch now before you go FI and run it fine as a DD. The Act PP will be stiffer pedal then stock as mentioned, the alternative would be the SOS for stock pedal pressure, so consider that if it matters to you. But if you need a clutch now/soon and know you will be boosted later, then upgrade it as needed/before you go FI.

I forget the model number but they are going for around 300 and at that price point, I'd recommend a used oem AP1 FW which are going for about 50 in the classifieds. The ap1 is around 11 lbs and the fidanza around 8 IIRC.
The Ap1 flywheel is 14lb, it works, but after running the findanza (8lb Aluminum with two piece replaceable friction ring) and the Act pro light (8.3lb one piece chromoly), id have to side with the Act Pro light, its just a more reliable flywheel, beautifully machined and wont warp on you like the Findanza did for me after I went to replace the friction ring. Mind you I ran the Findanza trouble free for 5 years, but once the ring wore out and I went to replace, it wouldn’t hold a clutch together, two times I had to drop the trans to deal with it vibrating loose and decided to chuck the flywheel and put in a ap1 I had laying around at the time, but the 14lb of the ap1 was a noticeable drag on the performance I was used to, so i was happy to find the Pro Light and get that swapped in.

And didn’t mean to come off so abrasive to you in post above, I am just a strait shooter and do have a rather extensive amount of experience when it comes to this car and modifications and mechanics in general, ive been at it with the same S for 10 years. I wont usually chime in unless I feel confident in the accuracy of what im saying, and of course there will always be something sometime that isnt right or overlooked, but there is enough clutter/confusion/wrong information going around for me to add to it, so I generally won’t post if I don’t know. Or I will say I don’t know. I hate to see other members go down a bad road if I can steer them away from it, or shed some light on my experience or educate them on the mechanics of a given topic so they can work through it on their own, that’s what I do here and enjoy it. I'm thrilled when I can learn something new from someone here as well, but honestly it doesn’t happen too often anymore.
My main concern is going from an ap2 flywheel to an act 8.3lb. Seems like too drastic of a difference. I want the car to be a street toy.

Will the revs climb too fast to deal with?

Also if I go AP1 flywheel, should I buy new or used and resurface?

Is the friction disc for ap1 and ap2 the same?

And what other parts will I need for the act pp, oem disc set up?

Thank you very much in advance!

I don't know how many miles you have on your car, but unless its pretty low its really a good idea to replace the throw out and pilot bearings. The pilot bearing is inexpensive at about $10 last I got one, its the little one that goes in the flywheel. The throw out bearing is a much larger bearing that runs over the trans input shaft and is about $125.

After the 00-01 clutch buzz(disc revision)they are all the same.

The 22lb flywheel of the ap2 is really overkill for the car, its not something you really want to get used to becuase it will cause you to develop poor driving technique when you get into a sport car with a properly weighted flywheel that allows the motor to rev happily inmop. Rev matching will be different for sure and if you appreciate employing more advanced driving techniques you would enjoy driving with an 8lb flywheel. The ap1 flywheel just feels normal/proper and would be quicker for you to adjust to. But if you are a driver at all with this car, you will learn to adapt to either options and it just isn't a big deal to DD. If your not the smoothest driver, coupled with the brute of a pp/ACT you might find modulation a bit friendlier with a ap1 flywheel. If you go that rout it cost about $40 for a resurface, and you will want to do it unless it has already been done. So factor that into the price. I wouldn't pay more then $75-$100 for a non resurfaced flywheel.

Could you help explaining how a flywheel frees up power?
