Advice needed:( Afi'd s2k (ap2) or 996TT?
I don't know. I can't imagine much else being more fun to drive then my boosted S. I guess it depends on what mods you have done also. There is a local member/community organizer here in my pac NW, screen name is Lig. He has a Pcar, I believe it’s a 996tt. He also owns a N/A S2000 with a decent pair of coilovers/wheels/tires. I know he has tracked them both and swears by the S2000… and every time he gets into it he says he falls in love with it again. I think the Pcar is just not the same lively driving experience that makes you want to DRIVE. I myself have not driven one, so I can only go from what I consistently hear from others. It makes sense to me given the experience I have in my car.
Hi there,
I just bought a 2003 TT and drove it back 800 miles. My suggestion is to get one that already has the mods you're looking for. Mine came with PSS9, GIAC flash, Europipe exhaust/cat, and GT3 sway bars. Approx. 500HP
The car is like a MISSILE, there is so much torque, yes it doesn't rev as high but its still very very very fun.
If you're handy you can do most of the work yourself since there are a lot of DIY threads out there. If you can't then be prepared to spend some money.
I originally thought about getting the Ptuning kit but after speaking it over with my wife, she suggested I get something else before sinking more money into the S2K.
I have no doubt that a factory engineered 996TT will be more reliable than a turbo S2K. It seems like most people have problems with them.

To me, the answer becomes obvious when you drive the cars back to back. Before I went FI, I went looking at Vettes to make sure I wouldn't regret keeping the S. After being turned loose (solo) for a few test drives, I was blown away by how fast a Vette can make the jump to lightspeed. I was ready to put money down and take one home, but the right options/colors were not available at that moment.
So I got back in the S to drive home. Within 50 feet I realized how much better a car it was, and how much more of a driver's car / sports car it was. The feel of the shifter and the steering, the amazing chassis response, the light weight... My decision was made.
That was before boost... Now that I've added boost, it's 100x better. I always thought I was a V8 guy because I never knew how much I'd love the feel of a turbo spooling up.
Anyway, the point is that you should go drive a TT or two. Then drive your S for a bit, and you'll know what you want. If you're still undecided, I'd try going the AFI route because it's a small investment (compared to a Porsche). If it turns out not to be all that you wanted, then sell the kit to one of us and go pick up a TT.

thanks for all the input so far. I'm not sure if it's helping or making things worse at this point lol.
I work in internet sales at my dealership. we have a few 996tt that i've driven which feel very fast and have decent handling, stock. some even have the x-50 package.
I have the afi kit (at least have paid for it), but haven't installed it yet. I'm sure more of my decision would be made if it was installed and running, but still waiting to install it.
Handling and feel wise, the s2000 is decently set up. I love doing mods that help me feel the car and in turn, feel the directness to the road. i have the handling and ability to stop covered....now i just need to increase its acceleration

hard one, I love the fact my car makes 500+ HP and can hit MACH 1 on the highway, however I dont like the noises, the smells, the rattles, the vibrations etc......... One thing I do love is the S' Interior, so simple, also th gearbox on the S is great. It's also nice to know a few socket wrenches and this forum can fix anything on the S...........
As far as the "cool" factor, I think its cooler to have a 500HP S2000, but to the average Joe or some dumb girl, yea the Porsche is more appealing

Peter! I'm surprised you're not looking at 996 GT3s! Seems like it will suit you better since you track the car.
