thats correct.. stock specs for these motors have the pistons coming out of the head 1mm

if you have a bigger bore than stock you will either need to chamfer the pistons or mill the head down to the quench pads and use a 0.075"ish headgasket to get proper piston-head clearance. Stock piston to head clearance is around 50thou, a 0.070 gasket will get you 30 thou, if you go with a 0.090 head gasket you will have similar to stock piston to head clearance.

This is why all the Mahle 0.25mm oversize pistons have a chamfer on the edges, the diameter of the stock chamber is a little less than 86.5mm

Wow Rob just wow!!!!

I see multiple two-step lunches in your future.
How much longer is the car going to be down for?

hope your doing well, Drew
Could be a while.......

Just got a call from the engine builder....they have the motor put back together, but they do not like how the CP 10:1 pistons are fitting into the deck. From what they are saying the top of the piston is sticking up approximately 40-thousandths above the top of the deck....which they say is "not right". CP altered the location height of the wrist pins on their 10:1 piston which is supposedly what is causing the issue.

They are in the process of working it out with CP.......but either way........it's costing more time. Better to do it right I guess

It's Always Something...!

I'll take suggestions on where / which MFG has an S2000 designed, 88mm, Flat-top 10:1 piston.......don't really want to drop to the 9:1

Open to ideas.....

Sick build man. And great choice on Puddymod!

Looking forward to your review of the Diff with the new LSD.. I'm looking to do a gear swap and maybe a LSD upgrade next year.

I'll be glad to flip you an update when it's up-n-running....

Just messing around with it off of the car you can tell that the lock-up is different. before I sent the diff off to PuddyMod when you rotated one of the axles....the other would rotate the oppposite direction. With the new LSD locking harder, you can't get it to break free by hand. PuddyMod said that at slow drive speeds around town driving that sometimes I might hear the Giken LSD scrub the outside tire, because the diff has a stiffer lock-up than the OEM.

The other thing that I'll be interested in is the difference of noise.....the clutch plates on the Giken unit vs. the very quiet engagement of the stock LSD. Hopefully it's not too loud or obnoxious.

Back In Business.......Pistons in the Block......everything fits just fine.

After a few more conversations with the guys at Speed Factory and a call with Mike Laskey / Laskey Racing decided to go with the CP 9:1 87.5mm pistons, because the 9:1 is a true flat-top design, and both shops have used them before and know that they don't stick out above the deck. Would have gone with the 11:1 but the piston design is domed....and neither Laskey or Speed Factory recommended that design.

Engine should be in the car by the middle of next week.

Funny, Rob and I were just talking about that last week. I should have never bought a house. What I need is a girlfriend to pay half my mortgage. Bastard
