I actually just got off of the phone with InlinePro. Tom was able to offer me an awful lot of insight in regards to the 2.5L motor and gave me several garrett and borg warner options to look into.

Ive gotten a chance to tune both turbos. The 5857 turbo spools about 200 rpm before a 6262 ,but you will be limited with higher boost. The 6262 is a perfect turbo for the s2k. The problem is that the s2k motor is so efficient that when you run a small turbo or housing, it really chokes the motor up top. You have a built 2.5L , that is why I would stick a 6265 or a 6262 on it.
Honestly I could not tell much difference driving with my 5965 and the 6265 I used both with the same A/R and the 5965 was a BB and the 6265 was a journal.

I have also had experience with Mase's kit and too me there was not a big difference between the 6262 or 5857 either using the same center section and A/R.

In fact I could see no big advantage with ball bearing turbos either. If I ever do another it will be journal bearing, the reliability is arguably better depending on the application and use.

Really it is the entire package that makes the turbo though, turbine A/R makes a huge difference in spool, compressor A/R is also worth noting, intercooler and system surge volume, turbine wheel design, manifold design..........

Differences between the standard Garret Style exhaust turbine and Greddy. I not found any reference yet but I have been told that the new Borg Warner turbos have VERY light and efficient turbine wheel now.

You have quite a few options for your power goal. Really, it comes down to budget.

My recommendations:
S360
BW 70-64 EFR
PTE 5857
PTE 6262
GTX3071R

What type of fuel will you be running? Thats a big factor.

Sorry to dig up an old thread guys, but at this point I'm leaning towards picking up a GT30/5857 sized turbo for the car.

At the end of the day, I want the spool and midrange characteristics of the smaller turbo, and really don't plan on upping the power beyond 400whp.

With that in mind, is the GT30 the turbo to go with. Most of what I've read indicate it's a more reliable turbo than the 5857. Would you recommend I go with the .63 AR or .82 AR? I'm thinking that the .82 is probably the best option, but I'm not 100% sure.

Is there any reason why my stroked motor would respond differently to the smaller turbo?

.82 would be the best. Ecspecially with your stroked motor. a .63 would start choking out up top.

For your power goals a 5857 or a gt30r would be a good fit. Will need to see pics of your setup or explaination of it for help in what is involved to switch.
