Default Check Engine Light On =\

Hi all,

I just purchased a car with a Greddy Turbo Kit. Since I wasn't initially planning on buying a car with forced induction, I never read up on it too much. Price was right and I jumped on it. Car runs strong and doesn't feel bad to me, runs a little rich imo, but don't know enough to be certain.

Anyways, co-worker got in the car and floored it while test driving. Noticed after the Check Engine Light popped up. It was fine until he was hard on the car. I need to smog the vehicle myself this weekend and so I need to check/clear this CEL.

Anyone have any recommendations on a good OBD2 Scanner I can keep around? Or maybe some other advice on what sort of stuff I should start looking for? Is there a way on the s2k to see CEL codes on the instrument cluster?

Thanks!

I got one at walmart....not that it works on the s2k anymore (AEM EMS) but it used to!

I'm guessing a misfire code or something of the sort, could be something as simple as the gas cap.

I do believe there is a way to get the CEL to flash the code by jumping certain pins on the OBDII port, however, I don't know off hand.

CEL was gone this morning when I turned the car on. Car feels fine to me, but i'm new to all of this.

I'll see what's up in a few days.

And yea, I'm sort of interested in getting a good scanner just to have. Having the turbo kit, I figure itll come in handy a lot....do u guys pop CEL often?

Since you still have the factory ECM and OBDII you would look into a Standalone OBDII cable (Search ELM 327) and software package like Didimoto, Autotap or other. With this software you can data log the factory ECM and the Emanage.

Not bad advice-- though you may want to look into just moving to standalone EM.

Could be lots of things, I believe an ODBII scanner should pick up previous codes if the CEL is gone now. I would drive it to Autozone and just borrow one of their scanners for a few minutes, worry about getting your own later.
