I stumbled onto this thread just like many of you since I have my 2nd 2005 Rio S2000 and want to go FI

My car is a daily driver so no track time on this car but I do want more power to keep up with all the euro cars that my buddies and I also own. Considering most of them put down between 333 - 500 hp, the s2000 is a but underpowered.

Anyways I have only 4000 miles on my car and recently added a Comptech exhaust. I have upgraded suspension, wheels, and chassis reinforcements but not really planning on adding a header or anything else crazy....

My question is this:

If I raid the Comptech catalog and get their full Supercharger with Aftercooler, is there anything else I need such as a VAFC or other external electronics to tune it? Would the header be something I should get to make more power? I'll upgrade the clutch and rear end as the car puts on more miles.

Can the Comptech unit be upgraded to an external BOV that vents into the atmosphere since I miss that sound from my good old Eclipse GSX days...haha Also does the Comptech come with any type of engine management?

With the Vortech, is the aftercooler and external BOV all included in that $3800 price everyone talks about? Does it come with some type engine management?

I'm not saying I'm made of money but frankly to me, when it comes to my cars, I don't mind paying a grand more for SOLID reliability and quality.

Power gains are nice too but in the end it must be reliable. I'd like to also so I'm trying my best to avoid hacking into the ECU or any other wiring on the car if possible. Not that I can't do it but I prefer to keep it all stand-alone.

I have this article from ROAD/TRACK Speed magazine pitting 5 modded s2000's and the white Comptech S/C car ranked a tie for 1st in terms of pure fun, reliability and power. The car it tied was a full tilt race prepped s2000 which shows it's versatility. I will scan it and post in a sec....

Let me know your thoughts based on what I proposed above!

thanks guys for all your helpful info,
Rick

Well i called comptech and vortech.

Vortech makes a lot more power then comptech then u think because the hp gain they say u get off the comptech is with there comptech header and exhaust. Vortech makes the power alone. Comptech said just the sc with stock header and stock exhaust will get u around 50-60whp. Also the price i got from them comptech was cheaper. Vortech said 5500, and comptech said 5200.

Rick,

The Comptech comes with an ESM which loops the ECU signal to hide boost. No other electronics are required to tune. It is a "BOLT and GO" kit.

The Comptech header will give you gains as it's in combination with their exhaust and their supercharger.

Clutch upgrades are not necessary but depends on your driving style. Plenty members have stock clutches and are boosted. Although many have upgraded also.

You can upgrade to ANY BOV you prefer. I had both the Godzilla and the Greddy type S on my setup.

No engine management with the Comptech Kit, just the ESM which is not engine management. Note that you will only need piggy back or complete engine management once you increase stock level boost with more poundage and larger injectors.

As for reliability... both seem very sound. A member posted recently that he has over 100K miles on his car and it's been boosted since 60K miles. I'm sure that taken care of properly....both kits will last a very long time.

Dude! You gotta get Vortech SC....Just got back from a dyno pull and the car pulled 320.8 at the rear...that's just the stock Vortech SC Kit with Invidia Exhaust only. If you want some proof..I'll email you my car dyno results.

SIIK2NR : Thanks for answering ALL my questions - gracias'! That really helps me break it down in terms of what I need. I'm going to have my trusted friend install the unit but I'll be helping and getting dirty too since I really want to learn.

s2000cabrio : WOW, that is a super impressive dyno run! Do you ever go to the northwest Portland metro meets? I'm up there every month and would love to get a ride in your car if I'm there. I'm only getting the Comptech exhaust and headers to go with the Comptech kit w/ Aftercooler so hoping I can be near your power levels but now you are making me think twice.

late,
rick

I wouldn't be too concerned. As long as the car is in good condition and has been well maintained it should be ok.

Just make sure you don't abuse it once the SC is on. That goes for a car with 560 or 56K miles.
Hi Aus,

what do you mean by "abuse" in this relation ?!

Well i hate to say it - no real Comparation done that way and i dont know what if Two same cars (year) and the two were SC with the opposing SC's who would win not depending on the driver and if they were stock with SC.
Basic Roll on Race.
I would really like to know that.
I know they are at different boost but How much Difference in a race?
Which would pull harder?
My bet is on Vortech even so i have Comptech.
so Guys who are Friends and have different SC setup please shed some Light....
