Default Comptech Stage 1 with Apexi VAFC

Pardon my ignorance as I am new to FI, but not to the S2000. I have an AP1 currently setup for STR class in autox and am about to install a stage 1 Comptech kit. I have an Apexi Neo setup to lower the vtec point to 5k and to lean out a few rich spots on my a/f curve (I had a professional tune it on a Dyno). Now I am piecing together the stage 1 kit and want to know f I need the Comptech esm unit in addition to my Apexi Neo, or if the Apexi Neo will effectively take the place of the Comptech esm. I assume that since the esm hooks up to the map sensor to modify the map signal, and that is the same exact thing that the Neo does, that I won't need the esm at all. I would install everything and take it back to the Dyno to have the a/f smoothed back out.

I know the Neo sucks for true tuning as it won't adjust timing and it can't add fuel, only take it away. However, if that is all the Comptech esm does anyway, then I'm no worse off with the Neo. Plus I can still lower vtec which helps with autox.

I did a search and found a guy who IS running both the esm and a VAFC. Just looking for knowledge to see if I can skip the esm and keep the Neo. Thanks everyone!

ESM doesn't do that, it just clamps the map voltage so the stock doesn't see over a particular voltage i.e boost, if using the neo and an esm you are a little more limited with the scope of the neo's effectiveness.

I used to use a missing link and a neo.

So the esm limits the voltage that the ecu sees from the map sensor to prevent the ecu from receiving a higher than standard signal from the boost and freaking out? And the synapse missing link does the same but in a mechanical way, not an electrical way?

So I definately need either one or the other (esm or missing link) to limit the map voltage? What happens if I have neither and attempt to tune with the Neo?

Yes..... not sure if serious or full of smart-assery...

Looking into a few more old threads it appears that my best option is to get the missing link to run with the VAFC. That way the ecu won't be tripped up by the boost seen across the map sensor, the fpr can do its thing to handle the need for more fuel up-top, and the Neo can lean out anything that the fpr makes too rich without it's signals getting screwed by the Comptech esm. Stop me if something doesn't sound right with this.
