The last time I checked the AP1 shortblocks (assembled bottom end) could be had wholesale for under 2500$.. I'm surprised they charge more for the AP2.

The machine shops in my local area can't hold the tolerances Honda can. If I even need to replace the shortblock in car I'll be going OEM Honda.
i agree. Whenever my 2.2L gives out, im going to get a new OEM. Even for around 500whp, i'd rather change a headgasket than have to worry about the issues built motors seem to have.

I've seen some bad machine work from a bunch om shops in the southeast. It seems they think all bearing a ring gap clearances should be run like a small block chevy : (

i did already. my dealership can get me an AP1 block for 2900 and an AP2 for 3400 - hardly a bargain unfortunately.

in the used market i'd rather not just buy a block either - who knows why it was taken apart in the first place.

i have a couple of leads but im still not sure just yet. i guess i will keep seraching!

and for the guy who asked earlier - i made about 300tq to the wheels.
It looks like Majestic Honda has AP2 (searched for 2005) short blocks for ~$2700. They're in the Rhode Island.

They won't ship anything freight.

Just a thought (for possible pickup) since his profile says NY.

its a tough call, if my motor ever gave out, depending on the damage, i would either buy a used motor out of a low mileage car, or send my motor to laskey to have it built.

as for the clutch, 300wtq doesnt need puck, competiion cllutch disk or clutchmasters stage 3 disc.

good luck with the rebuild.

I guess I've got a "in" with the local dealer.

Go schmooze with the parts manager at your local dealer to see if you can get a better deal.

Good call.

If Dev and Telos both order one, I could drive my truck out to RI and pick up the blocks for them...

Group buy on bottom-ends?

I haven't decided whether I will buy a new bottom end and use a headgasket for my setup or build the bottom end. We'll see

My friend works at a Honda dealer here in north NJ; I will ask him how much he can get me a stock bottom end for...
