CTSC Ticking/Clicking
I tried to revive an old thread on this last night, but there was little feedback.
Here's my situation
I have a CT aftercooled SC system on my MY01; 23,7XX miles on the car.
It was 48 degrees here today so I took the S out for a cruise.
At every light I would hear this loud ticking. I stopped by my buddies house and let the car idle while I listened. At first I thought it was the timing chain tensioner clicking, but the old screwdriver to ear trick lead me and my friend to believe that it is the SC belt tensioner pulley.
I guess it could be the SC, but it doesn't sound like it is coming from their.
Here is what I need to know:
1) How tight is too tight? I know the belt is supposed to be tightend to 20lbs of force
with .5" to .6" slack, but last fall I was losing boost so I replaced the belt, which
was slipping, and it was fine then. I guess I may have just overlooked the sound.
2) Xviper states that the tensioner pulley may be cocked or bent. Would this cause
this sound?
3) How are those pulleys made? Do they have needle bearings, which could be worn
causing the pulley to tick?
Or is it the Blower?
Thanks.

Solved!
I loosened the belt and removed the pulley. It seemed fine.
I took a moment to move the tensioner arm up and down, when noticed there is a little play, frontward and backward. I put the pulley back on and tightend it to CT specs.
I assume that the pulley was too tight, which caused the tensioner arm to make that gravely clicking/ticking sound.
Sounds great now.
