Just started disassembly tonight. I did a leak down test before and all cylinders less than 5%. Very annoying to pull this motor apart. Ran it tonight while compressor running and could hear the knocking over my 5hp compressor running. Will pull head in AM and motor out after that. Will keep you updated....
Ok, well, when I pulled the cams out, I noticed something interesting. The VTEC rocker on the exhaust side of cylinder #4 was depressed compared to the other 3. Here is a picture...
Closeups...
Cylinder 3
Cylinder 4
All of the intake side were depressed
So, I removed the rockers and pulled out the LMA springs and here is what I see.
Cylinder 4 is on the bottom compared to the other 3.
This is all 4 intake LMA springs compared to one of the good exhaust side..
So, my question is, are all 8 supposed to be the same size? Or are there specific ones for intake vs. exhaust?
Thanks. That's what I discovered too. So I had 3 that were right and 5 that were too short. I now have 8 correct ones thanks to McDavid Honda in Frisco. They even honored Majestic's online price. I'll put these in later today and let you know.
When this head was rebuilt, evidently wrong springs used. Good news is there are very few miles on this head and cams look good. Damn things just rattling like crazy. That must be why sound went away when I hit VTEC. Rockers all locked together so no chattering.
