Default Engine rebuilding

I cracked a piston and tore up my block about 4 months ago. I reacently had the block resleeved with a billet sleeve. I am getting JE psitons lowering the compression to 9:1 my mechanic said that since everything is off he could bore out the block and port and polish the head. what are the pros and cons to boring out the block? can i trust them to do a good job port and polishing the head? I know its not an easy job. Is there anything else that I could do while everything is apart? im CTSC'ed currently boosting 10lbs but planning to go to 14-16lbs.

If you had it re-sleeved why do you want/need to bore it?

its relseeved to the orginal specs. its a billet sleeve so its just one whole pice. not 4 individual sleeves. forgot to mention im CTSC'ed. The block is just sitting until they have the pistons made so im wondering if I should bore it out beyond the original specs.

Larger bore means more tq No real downside other than not being able to use a Honda HG. Who is doing the work? It sounds like your apprehensive about their ability.

hey John Its at Top Flight Corvette in san diego. They do realy good work and mostly deal with high horsepower domestics and a few imports. I'm not to apprehensive about the bore, mostly about port and polishing the head. I heard the only two shops that have gotten it right are laskey and alaniz so i wonder if they can do it as well as those two. Ill do the bore, more torque is and ill ask how much for the P&P. You dont think alaniz or laskey would give the specs on thier heads do you? that way they have something to go off of.

IMO---
OE bore is 87mm, buy 87mm JE pistons and take to the machine shop, they will do the rest. This allows you to run an OE head gasket. The 1mm will not make a noticable difference in power/torque, but will force you to run a larger bore head gasket which will result in more $$. As far as the P&P, they are not the only one that does it........

Its already been machine to 87mm and there is still alot more room to bore out. I will find out from my mechanic how much more it is safe to go. I will also try to take pics of the engine as it is now so you can see. I should find out this week how much the shop will charge for P&P. whats a good price range?
