how are you going to see fire with your hood closed while you're in a car? smoke can mean many things besides fire and i dont know if you'll be able to see flames coming up through the 1/4" spaces between the hood and fenders. by the time it takes you to diagnose that a fire is actually happening its going to be way too late.

if my car is gonna burn, i'd rather just jump out instead of fumbling around for a switch i havent used yet.

an orange glow and LOTS of smoke is usually the indicator for the pull.
