Is this why the turbo guys can do without it? I was looking to see how you guys run your piping and noticed that a guy who posted up his piping didnt have it.
Yes, most turbo guys delete it because 9 out of 10 of them are running an EMS where the air pump no longer functions so its kind of like having dead weight and routing the charge pipes up to the throttle body is easier also without it.

Aint that the dame truth.

At first it looked like it was not gonna be posible with that pump in the way, but I manage to finally get 2" of clearance before the pipe touches the driver side tire.

Would an intercooler be more effective than an aftercooler for high boost levels, say 12psi + on the Comptech?

So I finally drove her today....if felt stronger, so I gonna be positive about the dyno. One thing that was expected was you could not hear the HKS BOV at all under 5K RPM's. Even gear 1 and 2 was hard to hear....but in 3rd gear in Vtec, it blew quite nice, but as expected....nothing like the HKS on a turbo. After I put the 7lbs pulley in there, I'm sure this would remedy it alittle bit more.

I have the stock comptech pulley with AC and make @ 5.25 PSI - figure I'm losing a pound with the AC. I just dynoed the car and got 281 HP at 88F degrees. With a bag of ice on the AC, I got 301. For the FMIC - I'd be curious how much of a temperature drop you can achieve in the air charge and if it lowers the boost even more than the @ 5psi that seems standard with the stock AC. Dyno plot:

Standing, THANK YOU, for sharing so I have something to compare with. Thats a very impressive increase for just a bag of ice. Atleast now I'll have something to compare notes to.

You need to put a grill in the bumper to keep rocks, bugs, and other crap from hitting the intercooler and denting/screwing it up. I cannot tell you how much it bugs me that people pay $800-$1,000 for an FMIC and then do not protect it. Not many things are uglier than an all jacked up FMIC

General, first off great job. Did you do that all yourself. I have been thinking about doing the same thing you did, because of comptech going out of business and the fact the aftercoolers cost $1000+.

Did you just use a universal intercooler or what? The dimensions on it looks like it fits the S nicely. If you can provide where you got the intercooler from that would be great.

Another thing I was thinking, is when using a non-coolant type of intercooler/aftercooler dont you get better tempuratures then using the coolant type. From my experiences it seems like the air temps would be cooler using the front mount air type then the coolant type which sometimes gives warmer air temps. If anyone wants to explain why this logic is not true, im all ears.
