If I had a stock CT sc, I'd run what Ztec and Black Nugget are running: NGK 7173 gapped to .034.

I posted this and I'm sure you saw it but let me post here as well.

I was researching through NGK and other site, I found that 7173 is 1 step colder than our stock. according to their web site, you should increase as per 75 to 100 hp increase. notice that our OEM plugs are 1 step colder to begin with. Civic's heat rating is 6.

NGK for OEM 2000
part# PFR7G-11S, Stock# 7772. Platinum tip, 14mm, 3/4" reach, 5/8" Hex. heat Rating: 7, Gap 1.1mm (.044")

NGK for 1step colder
part# R5672A-8, Stock# 7173. 14mm, 3/4" reach, 5/8" hex, heat Rating: 8

NGK for 2step colder
part# R5672A-9, Stock# 7405. 14mm, 3/4" reach, 5/8" hex, heat Rating: 9

I hope someone else can confirm the information I have. also, the gap, I was told to have it between .028 to .030.

cheers,

Nibble, that actually is very very useful information. As I am changing my current setup I am most likely going to need 2 Head Range Colder Plugs!!!
Now I guess it is about time to stop by the store & pick up some NGK 7405's. Most likely I will have them gapped to 0.030" - 0.032".

Skip, I still have 2-3 unopened boxes of the NGK 7173's - I'll get them up to you sooner or later!

So I guess we'll be testing the 7405's together!

I actually purchased a set of Denso Iridium IK24's from Sparkplugs.com a while back. Put them in my car for about 50 miles & then started hearing of all the problems - just sold them to a local friend for $35.

I had Ik24 for about 20,000 miles. knock on wood. *knock. *knock.

mechanically, I don't have issue but do have high RPM lag. I'll have 7173 and 7405 soon to find out if that was culprit.

So what is the official word on how often to replace the NGK coppers? Is it really 6K miles? That'll be a hassle.
