The VTEC lobe has a LOT of valve overlap. With the SUPER restrictive log manifold that Greddy has you have to raise VTEC that high in order to prevent hot exhaust gasses from going back into the cylinders during this overlap. (When both the exhaust and intake valve is open at the same time)
Just an FYI, I have VTEC set at 6800 with my Inline Pro kit and I run a 3" exhaust cutout with it. It's just the nature of the beast with logs unfortunately.
