The Ford 8.8 is almost 2x the strength of the S2k diff. You can beef up the stock stuff and buy yourself some time (I'm running a Puddy diff myself), but in the end the Ford rear will be able to handle more abuse purely from just being bigger.

If you're serious about the 1/4 and making good power, no sense in doing it more than once. Go with what's proven and that's the Ford 8.8.

Does being lowered affects the stress on diff?
No it doesnt. It only changes the location of the prop endes inside the cups, which are designed to move in and out freely durring susp movment.

I have broken two ap1 diffs. One had Mostly NA miles with some low boost miles. Second, was moderate boost miles, with a used unit. Can’t remember how many miles it had total. Maybe 100k max after it let go. They both had the typical ring/pinion failure. Wised up and got the ap2 now.

I agree, there will always be a weak link, and I much rather replace a rear end or axel in a few hours, then deal with replacing a trans. I go with spending $600 on a low mile used diff when needed. But I’m glad there are guys that won’t do this, keeps more supply for me in the future

thanks i was'nt sure heard mixed things about lowering and putting stress on diff. i picked up coilovers and spacers and didnt want kill my diff by adding more stress, i plan to go with the 8.8 rear and doit once and be done with it. rite now need wait for more funds, i went turbo sucked alot of money away lol.

I'd say you need to break at least 3 stock ones to justify the cost to yourself lol. Although if you're serious about this thing, you'd probably come out smarter just biting the bullet from jump and not biding your time until they go boom.
