Also keep in mind that the type of differential you run in the Ford 8.8 will affect handling characteristics if you do more than straight line work. It was like that with the InlinePro R200 diff that was actually a viscous LSD from the factory (performance downgrade from an OEM Torsen).

you can get torsen LSD's for the ford 8.8 as well as the clutch type trac-loc

the s2000 ring gear is 7.5", the ford is 8.8". A 7.5 inch gear will never ever be as strong as an 8.8

Fo sho. But some people don't realize that's an option or that it makes a big difference in handling. BTW, clutch diff FTW.

It definatly makes a difference. But after you buy all the stuff to get to what the stock has for LSD and gearing, im sure the price jumps up from the starting price of the 8.8 kit.

~120 k miles, 30k boosted at ~ 300 wtq

I use to do burn outs/donuts multiple times a week during the first couple years of ownership, probably only 20-30 times boosted.

I have only busted a drivers axle.

Ford racing 4.10 gear set is 200, a trac-loc lsd is 230, figure 100 in rebuild parts. You can get the pumpkin for less than 100. So about $700 in parts over the cost of the FB kit and you are set. It would take 4 grand to make a stock diff that works and even then youd still worry about it

I blew a diff a couple years ago as well as a driver side axle (on two separate occasions). The diff had 40-45k miles of boost on it, a couple drag launches and lots of quick shifts. Puddymod believed it was the crush washer that lost its preload and allowed the pinion gear to go out of its normal area of movement. I had raced a friend's Terminator a couple days earlier and had shifted quite hard into a gear and since then had heard some noise coming from the rear end, especially when going around corners at slow speeds. I was coming home from work and got on it in second gear in the rain, the tires broke loose and spun to redline and i suddenly heard a big bang and a knock from the rear. I was literally 1000 feet from my home, so i tried to make it back, but it progressively got louder and i had to get a tow truck to get me up the last 200 feet. On inspection, a chunk of the pinion gear was missing and it had badly damaged the ring gear. The actual LSD was alright. I got a 'stage 2' rear from puddymod with 3.90 gears and have put about 10k miles on it since. I have since blown 3rd gear at Pocono, but the rear end has been alright. I'm not a big 1/4 mile guy, but it would be nice to not have to worry about blowing something on the occasional run with friends at Englishtown or Island.
