Hey everyone, Had a few questions that I thought you could help me on.
1) I just bought a vortech and I was told that I may need to get it tuned, do i need to get it tuned if it is a stock kit?
2) Also I am having some issues with the aftercooler hitting the hood. Any suggestions there?
It appears that the bands that were supplied are too short and therefore dont allow the proper bending that would enable the aftercooler to lay flatter in the engine bay.
3) Another issue is that the vortech supercharger bearings appear to be shot and may need to be exchanged on monday. Is this a common problem? My mechanic claims he is calling them on monday to exhange it and should be no problem...
4) are there any other problems I should be looking out for upon recent installation?
1. No...if your only gonna run stock boost tuning is not a must, many run the stock kit without tune...myself included.
2. I have no idea what you're talking about.
3. If it's a new kit they should replace/repair free of charge.are you sure the bearing is going....cuz the vortech makes a whining/rattling noise at idle.thats normal
4. mines been fine after a year...knock on wood.
My guess is your "mechanic " has no idea what hes doing....
Take a look this is the way it's suppose to look like...so i have no idea what you mean by the aftercooler is hitting the hood.it sits much lower then the valve cover...or even the actual blower

So far I am not having a great experience....
1. Yes and No. Go find out what your AFR is. I might be wrong, but it seems that the Vortech runs lean stock. The problem is there is no real way to "tune" the stock Vortech kit. You can buy recalibration kits though to allow different amounts of fuel. I was running almost dangerously lean with nothing but the stock kit. I bought the recal. kit for about $40 and should be safer now. I'll know when I get my car back what I'm running at now.
2. Like the other folks said....I'm not sure how. Make sure it is installed correctly.
3. Bearings going bad is something I've heard of quite a bit recently. Mine included. I just got mine back from Vortech. They rebuilt it for free under the warranty. The noise is common with the kit, but if there is play in the pulley you should consider bad bearings to be an option.
4. Oil leaks. Around the vtec solenoid and such seem to be common. The first time mine was installed, it was leaking oil from about 3 locations. I had to have it redone and all leaks were fixed. The other problem has been the "black box". Some people have said it was shutting their car off or the car would not start. I thankfully didn't have that problem.
I don't think any of these kits were created equal, but I gave answers based on my experiences.
