Default Helio Coil kit

Hi,

I am repairing my head with the Helio coil since it is stripped and was wondering if that will hold boost. I want to know if anybody has ever used the Helio to repair the head and is it reliable. Thanks!

Should hold great if it is done correctly.

One of my friends repaired 2 threads for headstuds on his block and it was able to hold 20 psi for the past year at 456 hp in his integra.

Properly installed helicoils will be stronger than the original threads.

DO not use a helicoil for a sparkplug.

There is another insert called a Timesert which is a threaded collar that is expanded into an oversized threaded hole. It seals just like an original thread.

Helicoils are a spiral of stainless that is wound into an oversized thread. Problems can be if it grabs on the plug and starts to wind itself in or out with the plug, and also as its inserted into an oversized thread the spark plug is partially seated on the top of the helicoil.

The timesert comes with a tool that cuts a stepped recess at the top of the thread and the collar has a stepped top. Once its installed the toolkit includes a cutter to cut the top flush with the head.

Chris.

Yes that is what I was refering to, not the simple helicoils that are used for spark plugs.
